Audio-visual (AV) technology enables real-time, two-way communications, where the Online Notary Public, the Principal, and any witnesses can see, hear and communicate with each other. Participants in a RON may use a computer, smart phone, or tablet to conduct the transaction. Current requirements for AV technology are:

• The signal must be reasonably secure from viewing by anyone not involved in the RON.
• There must be a clear transmission, allowing the Online Notary Public to communicate with and to verify the identity of the participants.
